WEEKEND RACING PREVIEW – June 29

EAGLE FARM June 29

Soft 5 (8am Friday); Rail out 6m 1600m-1000m; 7m Remainder

RACE 5 (4) PRINCESS RHAENYS: No doubt this has been the carnival target for this classy mare after her photo finish second in this race last year. She’s on target after an excellent last start win in her lead-up over 1810m when she overcame a three wide passage to lift at the finish under 58kg. That was only her third run back and she’ll enjoy a much better run this time from the rails draw.

For Value

RACE 6: (1) VOW AND DECLARE/(9) YOUNG WERTHER: Keen to play with Danny O’Brien’s pair as both offer good value in an average field. The 2019 Melbourne Cup winner VOW AND DECLARE hasn’t won since his 2022 success in the G2 Zipping Classic but his he’s never going to get a better opportunity as he is well treated with 57.5kg under these compressed weight conditions after performing well under 59kg in much classier weight-for-age fields this season. Stablemate YOUNG WERTHER is a multiple G1 placegetter who has been working up to this distance with some solid efforts in unsuitable races. He drops 4kg from his Q22 sixth and rates well with Blake Shinn aboard for his first 2400m start this prep. Back them both for a profit!

RACE 7: (2) SEMANA: With some distance reservations hanging over the favoured pair this classy mare (a four time winner over 1400m) is sure to improve dropping back to her own sex from her Stradbroke Handicap effort where she faced a big task from a wide gate when having her first start for two months. Her excellent summer/autumn campaign saw her win the Listed MM Cup and G3 Triscay Stakes followed by G1 placings in the Coolmore Classic and Queen Of The Turf. Hard to beat if she lands here in that form.

Heavy 8 (8am Friday); Rail True

Best Bets

RACE 5 (4) AFRICAN DAISY: Honest mare came up well in her first start for new stable when a close second in this class over 1200m at Warwick Farm. Open to obvious improvement and gets conditions to suit as she is very good on affected tracks and boasts strong course and distance credentials.

RACE 6 (10) IN FLIGHT: Handled the conditions confidently over this course and distance two weeks ago to record her second win in three starts since resuming. Has paid the penalty with a 3kg increase but she stays in the same class and her last start form is strong with the runner-up coming out to win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

RACE 9 (15) TESTATOR SILENS: Made good improvement second up to finish runner up over 1300m at this course two weeks ago when he gave 5.5kg to the flying winner Elson Boy. Fitter and well placed this time as he carries 4.5kg less and has been out of the money only once in five Rosehill starts. Should respond well to the strong riding of his new rider Nash Rawiller.

Why They Can Win….

RACE 1: (15) EMMADELLA – Improving filly has been finding the line well. Will appreciate lighter weight.

RACE 2: (10) TOES IN THE WATER – Good effort this course and class before on pace Goulburn win. Benefits from a 3kg claim.

RACE 3: (9) NAVAL COMMISSION – Keeps delivering as he rises in class and distance. Ready for 2400m with 7kg drop in weight.

RACE 4: (11) DECADENT TALE – Strong Randwick win on her preferred soft surface. Should hold that form.

RACE 7: (2) WATERFORD – Recent efforts indicate he is ready for his first crack at 2000m. Nash Rawiller back on is key.

RACE 8: (5) SILVANITO – Form this prep first class but nothing went right this course last time. Well placed in same company with less weight.

RACE 10: (9) KAPAKIRI – Lot to like about his first-up third in a strong form race at this course. Sure to appreciate the extra trip.

RACE 11: (4) KAZOU – Nice trial since she was placed here first-up in April. Right conditions for another bold fresh showing.
